Valderrama is tighter, more exacting, and more judicial. It asks for thought on every shot and is unusually good at punishing the technically adequate swing that was aimed in the wrong place. It is strategic pressure golf at the highest Spanish level.

If the traveller wants the most important Spanish tick, the answer is Valderrama. If the traveller wants the most satisfying pure round inside Sotogrande's club culture, Real Club Sotogrande has a real claim. If forced to choose one for a first visit, I would still send most people to Valderrama. If choosing one for a repeat visit, the answer becomes much closer.
